Ahlam and Shata are destined to marry, but Ahlam loves the handkerchief seller Awad. He can only prevent the wedding of his beloved if he can lay his hands on the dowry within ten days. He tries to collect it in different ways most of which are illegal. The film exposes along the way several marginalized characters from the inhabitants of Mount Mouqattam, like the monkey trainer, and the tabla player in al Haram street, and Nawal the call-girl to whom Awad goes back to, to feel secure, before setting off on his quest again.
