Samih Choukeir is a Syrian singer, poet and musician. He graduated from the Ukrainian National Conservatory and went on to begin his musical career in 1982.
He had a common theme in all his works in which he touched subjects that were essential to him, such as the freedom for human beings and nations.
On the musical level, he quickly detached himself from the traditional oriental framework and created a deep poetic language which served as a support for him to approach philosophical, political and popular themes, and allowed him to touch Sufism. He also composed songs for children.
He has produced nine albums, including a tribute to the great Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish. He held concerts and participated in numerous festivals in the Middle East, Europe, Russia, America, Venezuela and Australia. Samih Choukeir also composed and wrote music for numerous plays and television series and movies. Finally, a collection of his poems entitled A Single Star was published in Syria.
