Borhan Alawiya who comes from southern Lebanon was born in 1941. From there he started his career which was dedicated to engage cinema. He came back from Belgium, where he studied filmmaking, to start from Beirut his journey with his debut film “poster vs. poster” in. That film was followed by his masterpiece “kafar kasem” in 1974, which tells the story of the massacre committed by the Israelis against the Palestinians.
He presented his third film entitled “it’s not enough that god is with poor” in collaboration with the Tunisian director Lutfi Tabet. During the civil war in Lebanon he presented another masterpiece “Beirut is on fire “which was distinguished for its cinematic language. After that time he presented three documentaries:” a letter from the time of war “, “A letter from the time of banishment “and “Gulf war! What’s the next”.
Alawiya is a professor of filmmaking at Saint Joseph University in Beirut. He is in the final stages with his latest feature film “the thief”, later on called “Khalas”.
